Erkki Veikko Ramakko 1928-2018

The family sadly announces the passing of Erkki, beloved husband to Raili (Rantamaki) Ramakko. Erkki passed away peacefully at Finlandia surrounded by his family. Erkki left Finland to make a better life for his family. In this he succeeded greatly. He was such a
good provider, husband and father. He was a giant of a man to them; always there, always caring, always thoughtful and especially always kind. He had an amazing work ethic full of honesty and integrity. He did not know the word ‘no’ and could always fix anything. He worked for INCO for many years in various departments, ending his career as a welder at the Copper Cliff Complex. During those same years, after work, weekends and holidays, Erkki worked at building his cherished camp on Black Lake. Afterwards, he was tireless in helping friends, colleagues and family with renovations, building homes or cottages. Raili and Erkki spent 25 wonderful years of retirement together in Florida with friends, enjoying each other and making beautiful memories. He was the son of Jussi and Lempi (Lahti) Ramakko. Brother to Sanni Vuorensyrja, Toivo Ramakko and Eino Ramakko (all predeceased) and also Sisko Lamberg and Tenho Ramakko. Loving father to Seija (Ray) Korkiala, Osmo (Doris) Ramakko, Brian (Margo) Ramakko. Papa to his grandchildren Kristin (Todd Ferguson), Kevin Ramakko (Laura Robert), Kelly-Ann Ramakko (Donald Johnstone), Brandon Ramakko, Brittney Ramakko (Kevin Saarinen), Brandice Ramakko-Burke (Ed Burke) and great grandchildren Ariya, Audrey, Pippa, Eli, Aiden, Easton and Maddix. Thank you to all staff at Finlandia with special thanks to the amazing caregivers in “Manty”, who made Erkki comfortable in his last years and treated him with such respect and dignity. Donations in lieu of flowers to Finlandia Sisu Charitable Foundation and/or Alzheimer Society. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
