Obituary for Violet Beryle "Vi" Horne (Lusk)

Violet Beryle "Vi" Horne (Lusk)
Violet (Vi) Horne

Violet (Vi) Horne, aged 95, passed peacefully on July 4th. She was an extraordinary woman who loved her family with all of her heart. Vi was born in Parry Sound in 1922 and was raised in Capreol. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents Roslyn Armstrong and James McGee, along with siblings Frances, Evelyn, and Jim. Vi was predeceased by her beloved husbands Ted Lusk and Jack Horne. She was the adored mother of Susan Bridge (Wes) of Capreol, Sherry Hattie (Sandy) of Copper Cliff, and Vicki Butler (Wayne) of Fort Saskatchewan. Vi was stepmother to Annette Dore (Gill), Bonnie Quackenbush (Bob), Nancy (Don Boire), Mary Thorne (Jim), Marilyn McDonald, Norma Laderoute, and predeceased by Bill Horne (Debbie). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Vi was known as "Doo" by her treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Vi valued every day of her life and maintained a positive outlook on both sunny and stormy days. Her love was unconditional. Vi greeted each morning by thinking of three things that she was grateful for. She said, "I could spend my whole day listing the many blessings in my life. God has given me so much." Vi was our greatest blessing and held our family together. She held our hands in hers and listened like no one else could. Her wise words provided us with comfort and guidance. Every visit ended with hugs, kisses, and many "I love you's". Vi's abiding faith in God sustained her whether life was throwing her lemons or riches. She had a wickedly funny sense of humour. Vi was a pioneer of Capreol and lived first with Ted on Ballpark Road and then at Coulson Court later in life. She was a faithful member of Trinity United Church. Vi was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Daughters of Rebekah. Her long term memory was remarkable. She could vividly recall past events with minute details. It was always an honour to be in her presence, but even more so when she was giving the gift of her life history. Vi was an avid knitter of hats, mittens, slippers, and dishcloths. She had a flair for fashion and was always elegantly dressed and accessorized. One of Vi's greatest loves was music. She was a born performer who knew the lyrics of hundreds of hymns and wartime songs. Vi proudly performed in Legion productions and sang "We'll Meet Again" with gusto. We know that Vi is in heaven singing and laughing with everyone who went before her. There is already a tremendous void without her. However, we take great comfort in knowing that she will always be with us. We want to extend a profound thank you to the staff of both Walford on the Park in Copper Cliff and Extendicare York. There are no words that can capture how deeply we appreciate how everyone cared for Vi over these past few years. There will be a celebration of Vi's extraordinary life on Thursday, August 24th at 1:00 at Trinity United Church in Capreol. Donations can be made to the Bread and Roses Food Bank. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.

An Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind always be at your back,
May the sunshine warm upon your face,
The rainfall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
