Veronica “Vonnie” Muriel Tyler (née Hulme)
The family is saddened to announce the passing of Veronica “Vonnie” Tyler, 85, of Sudbury, on April 13th, 2017. Vonnie is survived by her husband of 63 years Robert (Bob), sons Kim (Nancy), Mark (Kathy) and David (Anita), grandchildren Sam, Jacob, Cole, Shaun, Rebecca, Matthew and Cassandra. Predeceased by her father George and mother Elsie (née Samson) Hulme, and sister Alice Hulme of Magog, Quebec; her beloved aunts Ethel, Margaret, Hazel and Doris. Survived by her brother Russell Hulme (Helen), cousins Claire Roberts, Shirley Tsoukanas (née Hall), Frankie Noble (nee Henson), Richard McLauchlan, Robert McLauchlan, Susan Piotrowski (née McLauchlan), Sandra Abuja (née McLauchlan), niece Deborah Hulme and nephew Ron Hulme.
Vonnie was born in Magog, Quebec on November 16, 1931. She graduated and practiced as a nurse at Catharine Booth Hospital in Montreal, Quebec before raising a family with Robert. She volunteered in many community and civic causes and made many dear friends and acquaintances. Always the nurse, she was more concerned about the welfare of her family, friends, community and to the end her fellow patients above her own concerns.
Vonnie was a proud and passionate “Townshipper” born and brought up in the heart of the Eastern Townships of Quebec, transplanting to Sudbury, Ontario in 1960. At first daunted, having traded pastoral green mountains, farms and blue lakes for smoke stacks, mines, blackened rocks and landscape, together with Bob she raised their three sons, contributed to the community and became an active, proud and passionate “Sudburian”.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 in the R. J. Barnard Chapel. Reverend Sandra Abuja will be officiating. Visitation will be held between 2:00 to 5:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, April 21st at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury. A private burial attended by family only will follow the funeral.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Ontario Lung Association. The family of Vonnie Tyler wishes to thank Dr. DeBlacam, York Extendicare and Health Sciences North for their kind care.
