Obituary for Francis Harry "Frank" Butler

Francis Harry "Frank" Butler
Butler, Francis “Frank” Harry

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Frank Butler, in his 85th year, on Saturday January 30th, 2016. Survived by his wife, Joyce (nee Green), of almost 60 years, his children Sue (Rick Whissell) of Sudbury, Richard (Thérèse) of Stouffville, and Brenda (Peter Adams) of Sudbury, as well as 7 grandchildren, Zachary and Bradley Whissell, Chris, Frank and Lori (Alex Lacroix) Butler and Scott and Brooke Adams. Born in Kingston, Ontario, son of the late Walter and Eva Butler. Brother to Beatrice, Walter, and Kenneth; predeceased by sisters Ruth and Shirley. Fondly remembered by many nephews and nieces. In his teen years, Frank worked at the Cataraqui Golf Course in Kingston, under the watchful eye of the golf pro, Dick Green. Little did he know his boss would become his father-in-law. Frank and Joyce were married in 1956. Frank worked for Northern Electric (later Nedco) for 44 years. He began working in the warehouse at the age of 19, and retired from his role as District Manager in 1994. Transfers through work moved Frank and Joyce to Toronto, Grimsby, Thunder Bay and Sudbury, where they have lived for the past 42 years. Until recent years, Frank was a member of the Idylwylde where he golfed, curled and socialized with life-long friends. He was a world traveller, stamp collector, wood-worker, cook extraordinaire, gardener, card player, a reader, crossword doer and in later years, "keeper of the fire" at the camp. There is so much that we will miss about Frank: his sense of humour and playful pranks, his corny poems - "Roses are red, coal is black, do me a favour and scratch my back", his singing to all the "oldies, but goodies", his Coquille St. Jacques and every other delicious dish that he cooked up for family dinners over the years, his love of fun things in life (riding roller coasters, para-sailing, water skiing at 70, tubing at 80), his wisdom and advice and his unconditional love for his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
As per Frank's wishes there will be no visitation or service. A private family gathering will take place.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice on Frank's behalf would be appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
