Obituary for Helene Drennan (Lefleche)

Helene Drennan (Lefleche)
It is with mixed emotions of both sorrow and joy that the family announces that our Energizer Bunny stopped in her 100th year surrounded by her loving family both in body and mind. Loving Mother of Marie (Ken Gribbons predeceased) North Bay, Andy (Elizabeth) Prince George, BC, Ed (Fern) Princeton, BC, John (Bev) Sudbury, Fran (Ron Tait) Lively, Cecilia (predeceased) and Cec (Anita) Sudbury, also lovingly remembered by Annette Dagenais and Garnet Behnke. Predeceased by husbands Henry Goudreau and Aurele Drennan, good friend Marcel Roy and Grandson Michael Edward Goudreau. Mom was the Mother of 7, Grandmother to 32, Great-Grandmother to 59 and Great-Great-Grandmother to 15. Predeceased by her parents and eleven of her 13 siblings. Survived by one brother Gerard (Pete) Lafleche and one sister Jacqueline Forbes. Mom was born and raised in Sturgeon Falls. Although Mom went to French Catholic School, she prided herself in having friends at both her school and the English Public School, at a time when it was not very fashionable. Mom obtained her teaching certificate and taught in Sturgeon Falls. She met and married Henry (call me Harry) Goudreau and moved to Copper Cliff in 1936 when Dad obtained work with I.N.C.O. From Copper Cliff the growing Goudreau clan moved to Copper Street in Sudbury. Mom continued her teaching career, primarily as a supply teacher for many different grades. At one time or another Mom taught all of her children. In the latter part of her tenure Mom relieved for many principals, who at that time had the Grade 8 classes. In 1988 Mom moved into the Casa Bella Apartments and spent the next 24 years with her Casa Bella Friends. During those years Mom reveled in the many gatherings with her ever growing family. At Casa Bella Mom enjoyed road trips, dinners, bingos, socials, communion services and especially her gardening. Mom was a member of the Catholic Women’s League since 1961, the Caruso Golden Age Club, Club 111, the Sudbury Horticultural Society and the Casa Bella Tenants Association. In 2012 Mom moved into the Meadowbrook Retirement Village in Lively. Even though Mom was at Meadowbrook for only a short time she considered it home and enjoyed all the great activities that were offered, especially bingo and the happy hours with music and fun. Due to needing more care Mom spent the last few months at Extendicare York. Mom lived by simple ideals: love your family, gardening is good for the soul, Vaseline is the true facial magic, to stay young keep moving and the greatest gift is to give of yourself. She always said “if they (the Medical Community) want my old body parts, let them have them”. Mom advocated that everyone should be an Organ Donor. At Mom’s request there will be no visitation. A celebration of Mom's Life/Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 591 Brennan Rd, Sudbury on Saturday April 25th, 2015 at 10:30 am. Following the celebration all are invited for fellowship in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers donations are requested for Our Lady of Hope Parish or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
