Obituary for
Thomas Peter Taylor
In Loving Memory of
Thomas Peter “Tom” Taylor
90 years
Saturday, December 16th, 2017 at Health Sciences North after a brief illness.
He was surrounded by his loving family. Tom considered his family God's gift to him. Tom was a deeply religious man and said that Jesus was his lifelong friend; a friend that guided him on his journey throughout his life.
Tom saw his purpose in life as the defender of those without a voice. He wanted everyone to be treated fairly and with decency and championed these causes within the labour movement. He was politically active and advocated for many social causes.
Tom was a proud veteran, having served as a Merchant Marine in World War II, enlisting at the age of sixteen. His leisure time was spent fishing, hunting and throwing darts, these activities gave him great joy.
Son of Peter and Estelle (Smith) Taylor (both predeceased), he was born May 20th, 1927 in Sudbury, Ontario. Tom resided in Coniston for most of his life. He retired from INCO after 28 years of service. Beloved husband of Lucy (Rivard), predeceased 1996. Survived by his dear friend Anne Proudfoot and his children Sharon, Tim (Angel), Sandra (Derek), Susan Soares (Terry), and Kristina (Lou). Also survived by 21 grandchildren and great grandchildren, his pride and joy: Erin (Rob), Joel (predeceased), Sara (Randy) and Lori Labine; Makenzie Taylor; Amanda, Andrew and Priscilla Soares; Maxine (Dave), Jesse (Megan), David (Kim) and Marc Prud’Homme; Lucy, Charlie and Wynnie Brouse; Benjamin, William and Edward Kerr; and Caleb, Aniah and Lucas Prud’Homme. Tom is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by his brother Maurice (Mary) and predeceased by Jim and Joe.
Tom’s infectious laugh and his ability to tell a great joke will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Westmount Retirement Residence for their care, compassion, and support.
