Obituary for Lea Punkkinen (Hunter) (Hard) (Andelin)

In loving memory of Lea Punkkinen (nee Andelin) (Hunter) (Hard) who passed away Friday, December 1st, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Beloved wife to Raimo Hard and Alpo Punkkinen both predeceased. Loving mother of Johanna Horne (Terry Tilleczek) of Sudbury and Richard Hunter (Kim) of Lively. Cherished grandmother of Alex, Ryan, Rebecca (Tyler Donnelly) and Megan. Dear sister of Raakeli (Raimo Hori), Eeva-Liisa (Edgar Appel), Saara (Raimo Lehto), Leevi, Leena (Carl Sibley) and Nina Andelin. Predeceased by her parents Reino and Irja Andelin and siblings Heikki, Martti, Risto and Erkki. Lea will be remembered by her children's father Guy Hunter, the Hard and Punkkinen families and many nieces and nephews. She came to Canada in 1958, and after having her children decided to go back to school where she received her nursing degree. She was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, the Ladies of Kaleva and the choir Luther Bells. Lea was an active, tireless volunteer, an expert pulla maker and traveled extensively until her health declined. Lea was a proud and dedicated woman and was the happiest when surrounded by her family.

Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury where friends may call from 4-7pm on Monday. Funeral service will be held at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 264 McKenzie Street, Sudbury on Tuesday, December 5th, 2017 at 10am. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium with burial of ashes in the family plot at Civic Memorial Cemetery.
