Obituary for Margaret Magdalene Lohnes

Marguerite (Margaret) Magdalene Lohnes (nee Scharbach) was given the gift of life some 94 years ago and now she has given it back. Margaret would like to let you know her work here is done. She received an invitation from above on Tuesday, October 10th, 2017, for which she could not refuse and will not be returning. Her new journey takes her to a wonderful place to meet up with her husband Calvin, her parents and her 10 siblings. She has left detailed instructions for her children and grandchildren to celebrate her life here which has now been completed.

Beloved mother of Glenn (Chotika) and Sandra (Ray), her very special grandchildren Emily and Jonathan, her sister-in- laws, Margaret Scharback, Leona Scharback, Mavis Scharbach, Gloria Bastianelli as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Felix and Lena Scharbach; sisters, Stella (Nat) Brossart, Annie (Ted) Martian, Eleanor (Mike) Osika, Marie (Bill) Bitz, Loretta Cormier, Irene (Kevin) O’Donnell; her brothers Frank (Kay), Edward, Henry and Joseph; and her brother-in-law Robert (Helen) Lohnes.

Margaret was born and raised in Allan, Saskatchewan. She came to Sudbury in the 1950s with her sisters Loretta and Eleanor. There she met and married Cal in 1957. Margaret worked for Sudbury Hydro, Dominion Stores and Loblaws working her way up to Head Cashier.
Margaret was a devout Catholic. Her strong faith was a source of strength and serenity. She touched the lives of many over the years. Relatives, friends and neighbours were always welcome to stop in for a visit and stay for a meal. One never left the house hungry or empty handed.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Elizabeth Centre, Finlandia Village, Dr. Jakelski and Dr. Bakker for their compassionate care.
Memorial Mass at St. Kevin’s Catholic Church (4610 St Therese St, Valley East) Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at 11:00am. Friends may gather at the church on Saturday after 9:30am. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium with entombment alongside her husband in the Civic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory can be can be made to St. Kevin’s Parish or the Northern Cancer Foundation – Cancer Centre. Arrangements entrusted to Lougheed Funeral Home.
