Obituary for
Joseph "Al" Aloysius Belfry
In loving memory of Joseph Aloysius Belfry “Al”, who passed away Friday morning, October 6, 2017 surrounded by love at Extendicare Falconbridge. Al was born to Elwood & Gladys Belfry, March 26, 1926 in Espanola and moved to Minnow Lake as a child. He was the true definition of a gentle man, whose quiet hardworking ways showed all of us the example of a life well lived; he laughed easily and appreciated everything. Al was a World War II Veteran, member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76, and a 40 year employee of INCO. In retirement, as a sauna aficionado, Al enjoyed many happy years at camp on Manitoulin, where a daily sauna and swim was his ritual. He was a master wood worker, and hours were spent in his shop producing treasures we all enjoy today. Due to the exceptional care and efforts of his dear wife Anne, Al continued to lead an active life until very recently. Our family extends gratitude and to the extremely kind and compassionate staff on the 3rd floor of Extendicare Falconbridge for all they did to help keep Dad comfortable during his final days.
Al is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Anne (nee Marttinen). Dearest Dad to Allan (Suzanne), Judy Peloso (Mario), Jim (predeceased) (Brigitte), Catharine Mitton (Glen predeceased), and William. Grandpa will be sadly missed by Carey Belfry, Kris Belfry (Melanie), Logan Peloso (Jennifer), Kyle Peloso, Tracy Belfry (predeceased), Jamie Collyer (Michael), Jody Evans (Greg), Sarah Valtins (Torey), David Belfry, Cassandra Belfry as well as 10 beautiful great grandchildren. Dear brother of Sister Marvel Belfry (predeceased), John (Dorothy), Margaret Belfry, Ed (predeceased) and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Friends may call 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with Parish prayers at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday followed by a service under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 at 4:00 p.m. Funeral mass at the Church of Christ the King, 30 Beech St. Sudbury, Wednesday, October 11, at 10 a.m.
