Obituary for Thomas Hulme

In loving memory of Thomas Hulme who passed away on August 2nd, 2017 at the age of 91 years at Pioneer Manor in Sudbury. Tom was predeceased by his wife Betty (Latam) in 1987. Loving father of Christina Van de Rydt (John) and Barbara Kodors (Rudy). Cherished grandfather of Mark, Jeffrey, and Jana Van de Rydt, and Nicholas and Griffin Kodors, and great-grandfather to Jake, Kate, Lukas, and Briar Van de Rydt. He is predeceased by his siblings Albert, Frances, Isabelle, and Fred. He is survived by his brother Harry.

Tom was born, raised and lived most of his life in Thorold, ON where he worked at Beaverwood Fibre Co. and the Abitibi Paper Mill until his retirement. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII and was a proud member of the Canadian Corps and the Royal Canadian Legion. Tom was a volunteer firefighter for many years in Thorold, serving one term as president of their executive, and enjoyed the years of parades and competitions as a member of their Drill Team. He enjoyed watching sports, especially horse racing, but the biggest passion in his life was his family. His love and humour will truly be missed.

Cremation has taken place, and will be followed by a private celebration of his life in Sudbury, and a future memorial will be held in Thorold. The family wishes to thank the staff of Cobblestone Retirement Residence in Thorold, Amberwood Retirement Residence in Sudbury, and the staff of Pioneer Manor for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
