Obituary Sister Margaret Dodge

It is with sadness that the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie announce the death of Sister Margaret Dodge, (Sister M. Sister Margaret was born, October 15, 1934, in Blind River, Ontario. Her home parish was St. James the Greater. She was the fifth eldest of eight children, four boys and four girls born to Cecilia Lemieux and John Dodge. Sister Margaret (Muggs) is predeceased by her parents and brothers Noel, Lawrence,
Edmund (Ted), and Tom and her sister Audrey Smith. She is survived by her sisters Wanda Maltice and Rita Dodge, and nieces, nephews and their families.

Sister Margaret entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie, on February 2, 1954. Sister Margaret generously offered her gifts of service in a variety of ministries in Garden River, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and North Bay. In 1968 following completion of the Registered Nurses Assistant Program in Elliot Lake, Sister Margaret nursed in Little Current and Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) hospitals. Following pastoral care studies in 1977 in Toronto and Thunder Bay. Sister Margaret served as hospital staff pastoral caregiver in Elliot Lake, Thunder Bay, and Hamilton. In 1996 Sister Margaret offered her gifts and presence as a pastoral volunteer at St. Gerard Majella Parish, Sault Ste. Marie.

In recent years volunteer outreach ministry at St. Gerard Majella’s Parish was where Sister Margaret was known and appreciated by many for her kindness and generosity when working with the elderly. Margaret brought energy, love and humour to each and every encounter.

The body of Sister Margaret will be received at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017. Evening prayer and visitation will be held in the Holy Family Chapel, 7:00 p.m, Thursday, June 29, 2017. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 in the Sacred Heart Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Bay, Ontario.
