Sylvia Schiller Melancon (nee Klym)
Sylvia, well known for her green thumb peacefully passed away on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2017 in her 98th year.
Predeceased by her husbands Ad Schiller (1966) and Victor Melancon (1993) and her sons Kenneth Schiller (1992) and Robert Schiller (2012). Predeceased by her parents Fred and Maria Klym, her siblings Fred, Anna Klym Werner, Helen Baryla, Harry, Peter, Therese Malin, Stephen, Louis, Natalie, and Michael as well as numerous sisters and brothers in law. She is survived by her children Sheila Poirier (Dennis), James Schiller (Micheline), Jerry Melanson (Barb), Nancy Fjarlie (Roy) and daughter in law Jan Schiller. Grandchildren Robin Wade (Mike), Craig Schiller, Chris Schiller (Lisa), Matthew Fjarlie (Jill), Joseph Poirier (Melanie), Jess Leonard (Paul), Edward Schiller (Sara), Anna Bertulli (Darin), Sheila Toy (David) and Mary Schiller and great grandchildren Kevin, Miya, Jean-Luc, Hannah and Gwen, Audrey and Jack, Lucas, Nadya and Kinsey, Katie and Ben, Joshua and Emilia. Sisters Elgean Schiller, Mary Erkelens, and Pauline Dyrkacz as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sylvia grew up on a farm near Beausejour, Manitoba and came to Sudbury as a newlywed with Ad in 1942. She made her home in Garson before moving to Minnow Lake and eventually to New Sudbury. She attended Holy Redeemer Church where she was very active in the CWL. She worked as a ward clerk on 2B/C at the Sudbury General Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She was a good cook and enjoyed feeding family and friends. She was an avid gardener who grew fruits and vegetables as well as flowers in her huge gardens. She also loved to knit, sew and do needle work from the time she was a young girl. Loved spending time at her camp on Lake Wahnapitae. She immensely enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her extensive family.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Mass will be held at
Holy Redeemer Church, 1887 Bancroft Drive, Sudbury
Saturday, June 24th, 2017 at 10am
(Friends may gather after 9:30am Saturday June 24th).
Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
