In Loving Memory

Lawrence Lewis
May 25th, 1922 – March 9th, 2017

In loving memory of a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and great uncle who passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9th, 2017 at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake. Lawrence was the youngest child, born May 25th, 1922 in Cutler to the late John and Annie (Meawasige) Lewis. He married the love of his life, Gertrude Burnett, in 1945. They enjoyed sixty-seven years together until Gertrude passed away in 2012. This happy couple were blessed with six children, five of who are left to mourn his loss; Connie Baranyai, Blake (Margaret), Andrea Leddy (Peter), Diane Meawasige (Michael) and Eileen Lewis. Their love continues with ten grandchildren; Christine Baranyai (Brent Withers), Steven Baranyai (Shannon Van Every), Michael Baranyai, Whitney Lewis, Philip Lewis, Jillian Lewis, Lianne Leddy (Mark Humphries), Patricia Leddy, Lynsy-Rae Meawasige and Carly Dell and six great grandchildren; Andrew Withers, Eathen Baranyai, Xavier Baranyai, Cheyanne Baranyai, Paige Leddy and Braeden Dibb.
Lawrence was predeceased by an infant daughter Andrea in 1947 and by all of his siblings and their spouses Agnes Commanda (Joseph), Susan Pelletier (Augustin), Lucy Shawana (Augustin), Nancy Shawana (Augustin), Julia Recollet Lahtinen (John Recollet and Leo Lahtinen), Henry, infant Nellie Lewis and infant Lawrence. Sadly missed by George Baranyai and Mark Dell. In his youth, Lawrence formed a band called Lawrence Lewis and the Northern Playboys. They played at many functions and venues on the North Shore. In later years Lawrence continued to entertain in local bars with his piano music. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

At 11:00 a.m.
Interment in the Family plot, Serpent River First Nation Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations to charity of choice would be appreciated.
